Wasps are Pests

Wasps are introduced insects. This means they came from overseas. They came from Europe. Some wasps hid in the planes that were coming to New Zealand from Europe. When the aircraft landed in New Zealand the wasps came outside and went into the forests. They multiplied themselves quickly and began destroying our environment.

Wasps rob honey from bees. They like to eat bee larvae.Wasps eat beetles and butterflies too. Some butterflies have completely disappeared from our environment. Wasps eat chicks and attack birds nest. There are about 20,000 wasps per hectare of land. Wasps have no enemies because they are at the top of the food chain.

We need to find a way to stop wasps from growing because they are harmful for us and our environment.
