Shape Collages

We were learning about patterns this week. As we explored patterns in nature, we came across a picture of a honeycomb. It had lots of hexagons on it and this made us look at geometrical shapes. So we learnt about 2D and 3D shapes and then made a collage on shapes.

Gaining fluency in basic Facts

This week we learnt how to get faster and faster at recalling our basic facts with the help of Tens frames.  Watch us do it!

Pattern around us

Room 6 has been learning about patterns. During our study of patterns we have learnt lots of words like alternate, overlapping, symmetrical etc. to describe them. It was very interesting to see how some students have become so observant. Now they look for patterns everywhere... in the playground, inside class and even at home.

Staying Connected

In the first week of our school we played lots of team building games. Room 6 enjoyed playing 'Staying Connected' the most. In this game the teacher asks the questions like... raise your hand if you have a pet etc. If the student raises their hand then the teacher throws the ball of string to that student. Once a student holds the string, they are to hold on to the end and throw the ball of string to the next student who raises their hand for the question asked. Continue till all students have raised their hand and are holding on to the string. Eventually all of us were connected through the string.
Then we had a discussion on though we are different we are connected in many ways and when connected we learn better and are a team.

Terrarium

Today Room 5 made terrariums. It's like a little garden in a jar that you can keep inside the house. It is easy to look after a terrarium because succulents do not need lots of spray. They like to get sprayed once or twice a week. Our terrariums remind us of the beach because it is made up of sand, shells, tiny rocks and lots of moss. It could also be a lovely home for a pet beetle or a spider... if you fancy.
